For immigration matters, this is not merely poor customer service. It can put a person’s legal status, travel arrangements, housing, work plans, documents, deadlines, and money at risk.

My experience

I instructed Balcells Group expecting professional legal support, careful handling of documents, transparent advice, and timely communication. Instead, I experienced the same frustrating pattern that appears in many public reviews: difficulty obtaining clear answers, delays, inadequate follow-up, and having to repeatedly pursue the people paid to manage the case.

When you hire an immigration law firm, you should not have to wonder whether your documents were received, whether they were reviewed, whether they meet the requirements, what has been submitted, or whether an approaching deadline has been properly managed.

Yet this is the uncertainty I experienced.

Not an isolated complaint

After my own experience, I reviewed Trustpilot and found many clients describing remarkably similar concerns over several years. The recurring allegations include unanswered emails after paid consultations, delayed handling of documents, vague advice, late discovery of translation or document requirements, errors in filings, and insufficient support when deadlines or rejections arise. Trustpilot has listed Balcells Group with a “Poor” rating of 2.4 out of 5 in an indexed view.

These are individual clients’ accounts, not judicial findings, and each matter has its own facts. But the consistency of the complaints is difficult to dismiss as a one-off misunderstanding.

Clients have publicly described problems in matters involving Digital Nomad Visas, other residence applications, student visas, tax filings, appointments, and paid legal consultations. Balcells Group itself promotes services in immigration, tax, business, and real estate—areas where accuracy, deadlines, and reliable communication are essential.

Why this matters

A law firm is not simply selling information. It is entrusted with clients’ personal documents, legal deadlines, administrative filings, and often life-changing plans.

A missed deadline can mean:

• A visa or residence application being rejected or delayed
• Expired supporting documents and the cost of replacing them
• Additional sworn-translation, government-fee, travel, or accommodation costs
• Loss of the ability to work, rent housing, or remain in Spain with certainty
• Time and money spent hiring another professional to repair or restart the process

Clients deserve prompt, clear, written advice—especially where an application contains risks, required documents are missing, or a filing decision could have serious consequences.

The firm’s replies

Balcells Group has responded to some public complaints. In one recent case, it said a refusal resulted from the authorities rejecting a legal argument to waive a criminal-record requirement, rather than from any error by the firm. It also said further appeal work would require additional fees. In another response, the firm apologized for a missing follow-up and suggested that an internal email or server issue may have been responsible.

Those explanations may apply to those individual cases. However, they do not remove the broader concern raised by clients: the repeated reports of poor communication, missing follow-up, late action, and insufficient accountability.

My advice

Do not hire Balcells Group solely because of polished marketing, online visibility, or an initial consultation. Before paying any legal firm, obtain everything important in writing:

• The exact scope of representation and all fees
• The lawyer personally responsible for your case
• A full document checklist, including validity dates, apostilles, and sworn translations
• A realistic filing timeline with buffer time before visa or administrative deadlines
• Written confirmation whenever documents are received and reviewed
• Copies of the final application before filing
• Proof of submission, official receipts, and file/reference numbers immediately afterwards
• A clear explanation of who pays if work must be corrected, refiled, or appealed

For a high-stakes visa, residency, citizenship, tax, or business matter, seek an independent second opinion before submitting anything. Do not wait until your legal status, travel date, or document validity is at risk.

My personal experience was deeply disappointing, and the similarity between it and so many public reviews means I cannot recommend Balcells Group.
