Text by Jenya Stashkov, art critic

There are many artistic practices that can be described by the term interdisciplinarity. We know that the root types of contemporary art are based on the combination and overcoming of several traditional art disciplines. Interdisciplinarity is a space of opportunities for contemporary artists to form their own unique artistic voice, ethical, political and aesthetic position.

Alisa Danelian is a contemporary artist. She convincingly and professionally works in mixed media and digital art techniques. Danelian“s artistic practice is an excellent example of the artist”s reinvention of the approach to her personal interdisciplinarity. Her complex interdisciplinary artistic voice can be described in the following terms: paradoxical, inventive, vital, critical. She uses unexpected cultural references: the aesthetics of hypercapitalist advertising, a mixture of collage and traditional stained glass mosaic, postdelesian deformed objects, and so on.

The interdisciplinary approach as a conscious strategy of deterritorialization allows Alisa Danelian to balance between digital art and collage, between photography and documentary art, between kitsch and strict conceptualism. This is an outstanding experience of artistic escape from self-determination.

Alisa’s visual works are unique and expand the boundaries of modern combined visual arts. The expansion of boundaries is also the main plot of many of her works: the female body expands with the keyboard keys; the boundary between the car and the female driver is erased by adding the texture of raw meat to the collage.
